Kerala is facing its fifth Nipah virus outbreak since 2018 after a 14-year-old boy died from the infection, prompting extensive containment measures and surveillance across the region. Authorities are tracking 350 contacts, including 101 high-risk individuals, and monitoring six symptomatic people. Tamil Nadu has intensified border surveillance to prevent the virus spread. In response, Kerala has set up isolation rooms, issued public advisories, and initiated contact tracing and testing. The state has received monoclonal antibodies for treatment and is coordinating with the National Institute of Virology and the Union Health Ministry for support. Temporary restrictions and special fever clinics have been established in affected areas to curb the outbreak.
