McMiller, who had four outstanding warrants from multiple states, was charged with first-degree murder, burglary, and retail theft along with six others involved in the crime. After the robbery, the getaway crew fled and crashed into Arceta's vehicle, leading to his death. Pritzker's office initially featured the photo in a press release about community violence prevention but later removed it after McMiller's arrest was publicized, stating the governor did not know him personally and condemning the alleged crime. Pritzker has emphasized his support for "peacekeepers" as part of Chicago's violence reduction efforts, contrasting this approach with President Trump's call for National Guard intervention.
