Evansville Couple Sentenced Federal Prison Toddler Death Infant Overdose
Two Evansville residents, Arcinial Montreal Watt and Jazmynn Alaina Brown, have been sentenced to federal prison for their involvement in a fentanyl trafficking operation that led to the death of a 3-year-old girl and the overdose of an 18-month-old child. Watt received a 20-year sentence plus five years of supervised release and was ordered to pay restitution, while Brown was sentenced to 15 years plus five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm related to drug trafficking. Between August and October 2021, Watt obtained over 400 grams of fentanyl-laced counterfeit pills, which were stored in a bedroom shared with Brown in a residence housing two other women and four young children. On October 26, 2021, three children accessed the pills, resulting in fatal fentanyl poisoning for the 3-year-old and a non-fatal overdose for the 18-month-old, who survived after treatment with NARCAN. Authorities seized over 5,750 fentanyl-laced pills, cash, and a firearm during the investigation, highlighting the extreme danger of fentanyl, with as little as 2 milligrams being potentially fatal. The case was investigated by multiple agencies and underscores the devastating impact of fentanyl trafficking on vulnerable communities.
