Nikki Glaser Co-Writes, Stars in Edgy Rom-Com Produced by Judd Apatow at Universal

Comedian Nikki Glaser is set to star in, co-write, and produce a new untitled "modern, edgy romantic comedy" at Universal Pictures, with veteran comedy producer Judd Apatow also producing. Glaser is collaborating with Emmy-nominated writer Sean O’Connor, who worked with her on the 2024 Golden Globes, where she was the first solo female host. Apatow, known for directing and producing landmark comedies such as "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Knocked Up," and "Trainwreck" (in which Glaser had a supporting role), continues to support emerging comedic talent through his production company. The project is in early development without an attached director, and Universal's senior executive VP of production development Erik Baiers is overseeing it. Glaser, a Grammy and Emmy nominee with a rising profile in comedy, recently taped a standup special for Hulu set to premiere in 2026 and is also working on a Paramount comedy inspired by the game MASH. Apatow's collaboration with Universal spans two decades, highlighting his ongoing influence despite recent challenges in greenlighting projects amid evolving comedy tastes.
