Volvo has revised its ambitious plan to sell only electric vehicles by 2030, now aiming for 90-100% of its sales to be fully electric or plug-in hybrids, allowing up to 10% mild hybrids due to changing market conditions, slower than expected EV infrastructure rollout, and recent tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. Despite this adjustment, Volvo remains committed to electrification, having launched five electric models and planning to introduce the ES90, a flagship electric sedan. The ES90 will feature a 111-kWh battery and dual-motor configuration similar to the EX90 SUV. The EX90 offers up to 310 miles of range and advanced technology features, positioning it as Volvo's most refined model to date. Volvo calls for stronger government policies to support the transition to electrification and anticipates a more flexible, non-linear adoption rate among consumers.
