PixxelSpace-Led Consortium Launches India’s First Indigenous Earth Observation Constellation

News summary

A consortium led by Bengaluru-based PixxelSpace has been selected by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) to build and operate India’s first fully indigenous commercial Earth Observation (EO) satellite constellation, marking a significant milestone for the country’s private space sector. The consortium, which includes Piersight Space, Satsure Analytics India, and Dhruva Space, will invest over ₹1,200 crore to deploy 12 advanced EO satellites equipped with panchromatic, multispectral, hyperspectral, and microwave synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensors over the next four to five years. This constellation aims to provide high-resolution, analysis-ready data and value-added services for applications such as climate monitoring, disaster management, agriculture, marine surveillance, urban planning, infrastructure development, and national security, while also reducing reliance on foreign data and enhancing India’s data sovereignty. The EO-PPP model allows the government to provide strategic, technical, and policy support while the private consortium handles manufacturing, launches, operations, and commercialization. IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Goenka stated that this initiative signals the coming of age of India’s private space industry, demonstrating the capability and confidence of Indian companies to lead large-scale, technologically advanced, and commercially viable space missions that serve both national and global markets. The project is expected to boost India’s space economy and place the nation among global leaders in space-based data solutions.
