Essex Police Seize Caiman, Cannabis in Drug Raid

During a police raid in Aveley, Essex, officers seized a four-foot-long caiman along with a significant amount of cannabis and several weapons, including knives. The operation led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both from Purfleet, on suspicion of cannabis production, possession of offensive weapons, and contravention of the Dangerous Wildlife Act; the woman was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs. Both individuals have since been released under investigation. The reptile was handed over to the RSPCA for its welfare. Inspector Dan Selby emphasized the police’s commitment to combating drug-related crime and ensuring community safety, highlighting the public's concern over such issues. Authorities noted their continued efforts to address both illegal drug activity and the welfare of exotic animals found in these circumstances.
