Mosquito-Borne Diseases Surge in South Asia

Bangladesh is experiencing a severe dengue outbreak with 27,705 hospitalisations and 143 deaths reported this year. In the last 24 hours alone, 321 new cases and two deaths were documented, predominantly in Dhaka. This outbreak follows a record year in 2023, with 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths. Other regions in South Asia, including Noida, Nashik, and Delhi, are also grappling with rising dengue cases. Noida reported a sharp increase to 91 cases, while Nashik saw nearly double the cases compared to last year. Delhi has recorded 1,229 dengue cases and 363 malaria cases this month, prompting intensified anti-mosquito campaigns.
