Austin's Waterline Tower Tops Texas Tallest Buildings

The Waterline Tower in downtown Austin has officially topped out, becoming the tallest building in Texas at 1,025 feet, surpassing Houston's JPMorgan Chase Tower. This 74-story mixed-use development will feature a luxury hotel on the lower floors, office spaces in the middle, and residential apartments at the top, with separate entrances and amenities for each. The tower also includes 24,000 square feet of publicly accessible retail and restaurant space along Waller Creek, integrating with the local Rainey Street neighborhood while preserving its character. Construction began in June 2022, and the project is expected to be fully completed with hotel and residential units opening by fall 2026. Developers emphasize that the building grew organically based on Austin's supply and demand for hotel, residential, and office space, and it will likely be the last major project in the Rainey district for some time.
