Nintendo Seeks Identity of Pokémon Leak User in California Court

Nintendo has launched legal action to identify the individual behind last year's massive Pokémon data leak, known as 'Teraleak,' which exposed confidential materials including source code, early character designs, and information on upcoming games and projects. The company filed a subpoena in a California court, seeking to compel Discord to provide the identity and contact details of the user 'GameFreakOUT,' who allegedly shared the leaked data on the platform. The leaked materials rapidly spread online, revealing sensitive details such as references to an unreleased Detective Pikachu sequel and codenames for future Pokémon games. Nintendo is known for its aggressive protection of intellectual property and has previously taken legal action against leakers, emulator developers, and hackers. If Discord complies, 'GameFreakOUT' could face civil or criminal charges, underscoring Nintendo's ongoing efforts to deter future breaches. Discord has not yet publicly responded to the subpoena.
