Teen Charged After Attempting to Board Jetstar Flight with Shotgun in Melbourne
A 17-year-old boy was charged after attempting to board a Jetstar flight at Avalon Airport near Melbourne while armed with a loaded shotgun. The teenager allegedly breached security by climbing through a hole in the airport's fence before trying to enter the plane, which was carrying about 150 passengers. He was overpowered by passengers and crew once inside, with no injuries reported. Police have charged him with multiple offenses, including unlawfully taking control of an aircraft, making a bomb hoax, and firearm possession. Superintendent Michael Reid of Victoria Police commended the bravery of those who intervened, and although counter-terrorism units were contacted, the incident is not currently being treated as terrorism. The airport has since reopened, and additional security measures are being implemented.
