Hawaii Doctor Charged with Attempted Murder on Hiking Trail
Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old anesthesiologist from Maui, has been charged with second-degree attempted murder after allegedly attacking his wife, Arielle Konig, during a hike on the Pali Lookout Trail in Oahu, Hawaii. Arielle reported that he accused her of infidelity and attempted to push her off a cliff before striking her in the head with a rock approximately ten times and trying to inject her with syringes. The attack was witnessed by hikers who intervened and called 911, leading to Konig's arrest. Arielle suffered serious head and facial injuries but is in stable condition. Konig is being held without bail following an indictment by a grand jury, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 31. The couple had been in therapy to address marital issues, including Konig's alleged extreme jealousy and controlling behavior.
