Sacramento International Airport

Sacramento International Airport (SMF) has commenced construction on a $140 million pedestrian walkway, marking the start of its $1.3 billion SMForward modernization initiative aimed at enhancing passenger experience. The new walkway will connect Terminal B to Concourse B via a skybridge equipped with moving sidewalks, escalators, and elevators, and is expected to be completed by December 2025. This project is significant as it addresses increasing passenger traffic, projected to reach 13.2 million this year, and is funded in part by $33 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Additional components of the SMForward plan include terminal expansions, a parking garage, and a consolidated rental car center, all designed to accommodate future growth. The project is being managed without local tax funds, relying instead on federal grants and airport revenue bonds. Airport officials emphasize that the initiative will create jobs and improve overall airport infrastructure to meet the demands of a growing region.
