Athlos, an all-women’s track and field league founded by Alexis Ohanian, is set to expand into a team-based format in 2026, with Olympic medalists Sha’Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, and Tara Davis-Woodhall as founding adviser-owners and shareholders. The inaugural 2024 event featured elite athletes, a prize purse exceeding $600,000, a Megan Thee Stallion concert, and attracted over three million viewers, significantly increasing the sport's visibility. Athlos plans to add field events and hold multiple meets across major cities, culminating in a championship after the 2026 World Athletics season. The league emphasizes athlete ownership and influence, offering equity to founding athletes to empower women in the sport. The expansion is part of a global surge in new track and field events.
