New Zealand Horse Racing Family Loses Son in ATV Crash, Father Critically Injured

The Schick family, a prominent horse racing family in New Zealand, has been devastated by a tragic off-road vehicle accident on their estate near Cambridge that resulted in the death of their 10-year-old son, Jimmy Schick. Jimmy's father, Rodney, suffered critical injuries but is now in stable condition, while his 12-year-old brother Oli is recovering well in hospital. A third child, a family friend, was also involved but is expected to be discharged soon. The accident occurred during a hunting trip when the six-seater ATV reportedly rolled on its side, leading to the group being airlifted to hospital. In an act of generosity amidst their grief, the family has requested that all funds raised through a Give a Little fundraising page be donated to the Emergency Services teams who responded, including the Cambridge Fire Brigade, Hato Hone St John, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust. The family and Windsor Park Stud, their respected breeding operation, have expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support while asking for privacy as they cope with their loss.
