Two Edmonton Teachers Charged with Possessing Child Pornography

Two men from Edmonton, Katz Dawson, a teacher at Lillian Osborne High School, and Allan Nelson, a home-based music instructor, have been charged with possessing and accessing child pornography following an investigation by Alberta's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit. The investigation began after a tip from the RCMP's National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children regarding the sharing of child sexual abuse materials via the social media app Kik. Police searched the shared residence on September 11, seizing electronic devices that contained illegal content after forensic analysis. Both men have been released under court conditions, including no contact with anyone under 16. Authorities emphasized the gravity of the case given the accused's positions of trust and authority over youth and encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward. The Edmonton Public School Board confirmed Dawson is no longer teaching and is cooperating with the investigation.
