Patriots dominate Commanders 48-18 in preseason exhibition
Rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson made a spectacular NFL debut with a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown, leading the New England Patriots to a 48-18 preseason victory over the Washington Commanders. Henderson also contributed an 18-yard run as the Patriots showcased a promising offense under new coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Quarterback Drake Maye added a 5-yard rushing touchdown and completed 3 of 5 passes during limited action. The Commanders, coached by Dan Quinn, rested 30 players, including starters and veterans, as they prepared cautiously after a strong 12-5 season and NFC championship run. Backup players such as Josh Johnson and Josh Dobbs saw significant action for Washington, with Dobbs scoring a 2-yard rushing touchdown. The game also featured the unveiling of a bronze statue of Tom Brady, highlighting the Patriots’ ongoing legacy despite the preseason context and the Commanders fielding many backups.
