Search Continues for Arlene Arkinson in Donegal

Search efforts are resuming in Glenfin, County Donegal for the remains of Arlene Arkinson, who vanished 30 years ago after a night out in Bundoran. The 15-year-old from Castlederg, Co Tyrone was last seen in a vehicle driven by convicted murderer Robert Howard, who was found to be responsible for her death in a 2021 inquest, despite being acquitted in 2005. Numerous searches have been conducted over the years, with the most recent in May 2024 yielding no results. A vigil was held last month to commemorate the anniversary of her disappearance, where her sisters called for a public inquiry into the case. Kathleen Arkinson expressed her heartache, insisting her sister deserves a proper burial and continuing hope that Arlene's remains will eventually be found. Gardaí have confirmed that searches in the area began yesterday and are ongoing, though no additional information is available at this time.
