UK Committee to Investigate Shein and Temu

The UK cross-party Business and Trade Committee has scheduled an inquiry on January 7, 2025, focusing on fast-fashion retailers Shein and Temu regarding their worker treatment within supply chains. This investigation emerges as Shein seeks to list on the London Stock Exchange, while both companies face accusations of endorsing poor working conditions and forced labor in their Chinese factories. The committee, led by Liam Byrne, aims to address broader employment rights issues and prevent subpar labor standards from entering the UK market. Both firms have publicly rejected claims of forced labor and have been previously halted from operating in Vietnam due to regulatory non-compliance. Shein's EMEA general counsel and representatives from Temu are expected to provide testimony during the inquiry.
