Nigeria,Brazil Seal $1bn Agricultural Partnership To Transform Farming, Livestock

Nigeria and Brazil have strengthened their bilateral relations through a landmark $1 billion Green Imperative agricultural initiative, hailed by Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima as a milestone in renewed strategic cooperation aimed at boosting mechanized farming, training, and service centers across Nigeria. The partnership between the two large democracies emphasizes mutual respect, shared ambitions, and practical outcomes to increase job creation, raise agricultural productivity, and enhance food security. Concurrently, Nigeria's livestock sector is set for transformation under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through a new strategic partnership with Brazil focusing on genetic improvement and animal health systems, particularly following Nigeria being declared Foot and Mouth Disease-free. The Ministry of Livestock Development aims to revitalize Nigeria’s vast livestock population, targeting a near doubling of the sector’s value from $32 billion to $74 billion within five years, with strong private sector collaboration inspired by Brazilian models. Both initiatives reflect Nigeria’s broader economic reforms, including subsidy removals and unification of the exchange rate, designed to restore market credibility and discipline public finances while laying the foundation for a $1 trillion economy by 2030. This comprehensive cooperation marks a new era for sustainable agricultural and livestock development between Nigeria and Brazil, underscoring their commitment to shared prosperity and practical partnerships.
