UK, US Sanction Russian Cybercrime Network Zservers

The United States, alongside Australia and the United Kingdom, has imposed sanctions on Zservers, a Russian bulletproof hosting service linked to ransomware attacks, particularly the LockBit group. These sanctions target Zservers and two of its operators, reflecting a coordinated international effort to combat cybercrime that threatens national security and critical infrastructure. Bradley Smith from the U.S. Treasury highlighted the importance of disrupting the networks that enable cybercriminals, noting that such providers facilitate attacks against both U.S. and international entities. Additionally, the UK government has sanctioned six members of Zservers and its UK front company, XHOST Internet Solutions LP, emphasizing the need to counter the Kremlin's cyber underworld to safeguard national security. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen cybersecurity and respond to the pervasive threat posed by ransomware gangs. The UK has stated that these cybercriminal activities have resulted in significant financial losses globally, amounting to $1 billion in 2023 alone.
