Detroit Firefighter Injured After Falling Through Floor During Early Morning House Fire
A Detroit firefighter was injured early Thursday morning after falling through the floor into the basement while battling a fire at a vacant home on the city's east side near Chalmers and Corbett avenues. Fire crews responded quickly to the blaze, which was coming from the back of the first and second floors, and extinguished it by about 6:45 a.m. The firefighter sustained burn injuries but was rapidly rescued and taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by arson investigators. No other injuries were reported at the scene, and the coordinated efforts of the fire department prevented further harm. This incident follows several recent cases of firefighter injuries in the Detroit area during fire responses.
