Monsoon Landslides, Floods Kill 3, Leave 15 Missing Northern Pakistan

Northern Pakistan is experiencing severe flooding and landslides due to torrential monsoon rains, resulting in at least 221 deaths nationwide since late June. In Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district, a landslide swept away more than eight vehicles, killing three people and leaving over 15 missing, while damaging infrastructure including houses, bridges, and communication networks. Hundreds of tourists trapped in the region were rescued with the help of government teams and local villagers. The heavy rains have also caused fatal incidents in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where flooding swept away a car carrying a retired military officer and his daughter, prompting emergency response measures from local authorities. Murree and surrounding areas faced landslides, fallen trees, and power outages, with rescue teams evacuating stranded residents and warning against unnecessary travel. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as more rain is expected, urging people to follow safety guidelines amid widespread disruptions.
