Sevilla Stuns Barcelona 4-1
Sevilla thumped Barcelona 4-1 at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, with Alexis Sánchez’s VAR-awarded penalty, Isaac Romero’s strike and late goals from José Ángel Carmona and Akor Adams securing a landmark win. Marcus Rashford pulled one back for Barcelona before half-time, and Robert Lewandowski later missed a penalty in the 76th minute that might have given Barça a route back. The result was Sevilla’s biggest win over Barcelona in decades — the first time they have scored four against Barça in 74 years — and marked their first league victory over Barcelona since 2015, lifting Sevilla up the table. Midfielder Pedri publicly criticised the team’s lack of intensity and Hansi Flick conceded the first half was poor, warning the squad must react during the international break as Real Madrid move two points clear at the top of LaLiga. Teenager Lamine Yamal is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks, further weakening Barcelona’s options.
