Bears Consider Eddie George for Head Coach

The Chicago Bears are considering Eddie George, the head coach of Tennessee State University and former NFL running back, for their vacant head coaching position. George, who has been with Tennessee State since 2021, led the team to a 9-4 record in 2024, earning Coach of the Year honors in the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference. Despite having no NFL coaching experience, George has been involved with the Bears as a Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching fellow in 2023, which has strengthened his ties with the team. His potential hiring would satisfy the NFL's Rooney Rule, requiring interviews with minority candidates. George is among several candidates the Bears are evaluating, including former Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy and Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. The Bears are conducting a wide-ranging search to find a coach who can develop their promising roster, including 2024 first-round draft pick quarterback Caleb Williams.
