Shabana Azmi to Receive Excellence in Cinema Award

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi will receive the Excellence in Cinema Award at the 2024 MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, honoring her 50-year career in film. The award presentation will take place on October 18, followed by a masterclass hosted by National Award-winning actor Vidya Balan on October 19, where Azmi's experiences will be shared. Azmi, a founding member of MAMI, is celebrated for her contributions to both parallel and mainstream cinema, with notable works including 'Ankur' and 'Arth.' Festival Director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur emphasized Azmi's versatility and significant impact on Indian cinema over the decades. The festival, running from October 19 to 24, will feature over 110 films in various languages, showcasing global cinema. This recognition continues MAMI's tradition of honoring Azmi, who was previously celebrated for her contributions in 1999.
