Museveni Picks NRM Forms for 2026 Presidential Bid

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially picked nomination forms to run for the positions of National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Presidential Flagbearer in Uganda's 2026 general elections, marking his eighth consecutive bid for the presidency. The event, held at the NRM Electoral Commission Headquarters in Kampala, was attended by senior party officials and hundreds of supporters, signaling the formal start of internal nominations within the ruling party. Museveni emphasized the importance of ideological clarity, integrity, and national interest, cautioning party leaders against corruption, favoritism, and personal ambition. He framed his renewed candidacy within a vision to transform Uganda's economy into a $500 billion economy within the next five years, highlighting the country's development progress since 1986 under NRM rule. The nomination process deadline is July 5, with Museveni responding to widespread petitions from party members urging him to continue his leadership.
