Gareth Viccars, a 46-year-old assistant referee who has officiated in EFL and FA Cup matches, has been charged with a child sex offence involving penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15. He appeared in Willesden Magistrates Court and is currently remanded in custody, with a subsequent court appearance scheduled at Snaresbrook Crown Court on March 3 to enter a plea. Viccars has been suspended by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) since the allegations emerged, and he has not officiated any games this season. PGMOL confirmed the immediate suspension and stated they cannot comment further due to the ongoing police investigation. Viccars remains listed as a National List assistant referee on the EFL website, with the FA yet to comment on the case.
