Pirates Place Nick Gonzales on 10-Day IL with Ankle Fracture

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed second baseman Nick Gonzales on the 10-day injured list due to a non-displaced fracture of his left ankle, which he initially sustained during spring training. Gonzales, who hit a two-run home run in the season opener against the Miami Marlins, was injured when he fouled a ball off his ankle and had to leave the game shortly after. In response to his injury, the Pirates recalled utility player Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill the roster gap.
