Official Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Tartan Unveiled
The official tartan for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games has been unveiled, designed by Glasgow-based fashion designer Siobhan Mackenzie, known for her contemporary tartan styles worn by celebrities like Justin Bieber and Alan Cumming. The tartan features the Games' signature blue, pink, and purple tones set against a steel grey base, symbolizing Glasgow's rich industrial and shipbuilding heritage, with a thread count of 74 representing the competing nations and territories and a dark blue section repeated 26 times for the year of the Games. The design, registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans and made entirely in Scotland using local textiles and manufacturers, will debut on the clothing of the new Games mascot, whose identity will be revealed soon, replacing the 2014 mascot Clyde the Thistle. Mackenzie, who began her career at Glasgow 2014 and designed Team Scotland's parade outfits for Birmingham 2022, is also creating a bespoke tartan for Team Scotland athletes and officials. More than 3,000 athletes will compete over 10 days across ten sports, including a record-breaking para sport program, with the tartan becoming a key part of the Games' visual identity and available as official merchandise. Glasgow stepped in as host after Victoria, Australia, withdrew due to high costs, with the event scheduled from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
