Buhach Colony High School Principal Resigns

Robert Nunes, principal of Buhach Colony High School in Atwater, California, has resigned following an investigation into his behavior during a back-to-school rally where he was filmed dancing with the school mascot, Thor. The video, which went viral, showed Nunes executing provocative dance moves and firing a confetti cannon, leading to community backlash and his placement on administrative leave on August 19. The Merced Union High School District announced that Nunes will transition to an associate principal role effective September 5, with the current interim principal, Torrin Johnson, continuing until a new principal is hired in Spring 2025. The district emphasized their commitment to maintaining a safe environment for students and staff, stating that corrective actions have been taken regarding all staff involved. Despite the controversy, some students from Nunes' past roles have defended him. This was his first year as principal at Buhach Colony after previously serving as an associate principal at other schools in the district.
