Patrick Shea Charged with Murder, Arson in Death of Binghamton Firefighter
A 36-year-old man, Patrick K. Shea, has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder and fourth-degree arson in connection with the February 12 fire that led to the death of Binghamton firefighter John 'JR' Gaudet. The fire, which occurred at vacant buildings on Main Street, was ruled an arson, with investigators determining that 'human involvement' was the cause. Shea was apprehended in Kirkwood, arraigned in Broome County Court, and is currently being held without bail. Gaudet was trapped under debris during the blaze and later died at the hospital, prompting an extensive investigation by local police and state fire officials. The Binghamton Police Department continues to seek information from the public regarding the incident as the investigation remains active. Mayor Jared Kraham expressed solidarity with the fire department and emphasized the commitment to seeking justice for Gaudet and his family.
