Raiders Owner Confirms Tom Brady Nearly Joined Team in 2020

Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion, nearly joined the Las Vegas Raiders as their quarterback in 2020 after leaving the New England Patriots. Raiders owner Mark Davis revealed that while he was eager to sign Brady during free agency, head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock preferred to keep Derek Carr, leading the team not to sign Brady. Brady himself has expressed frustration about a team backing away from signing him late in free agency, which was later confirmed to be the Raiders. UFC president Dana White also stated he tried to broker a deal to bring Brady and Rob Gronkowski to the Raiders, but it was ultimately blocked by Gruden. Despite missing the chance to play for the Raiders, Brady won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 and later became a minority owner of the Raiders starting in 2024. This relationship between Brady and the Raiders was built during those negotiations, with Davis expressing his desire to have Brady involved in the organization after his playing career ended.
