Indonesia Plans Forestry Carbon Offset Sales Soon
Indonesia is set to launch sales of carbon offsets from its forestry sector, signaling a significant shift in its carbon trading policies after a three-year moratorium. The initiative, announced by Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni, aims to help the country meet its carbon reduction targets and boost local economies. The Ministry of Forestry projects that carbon transactions could reach up to 3.2 trillion rupiah annually by 2025, with potential growth up to 258.7 trillion rupiah by 2034. The government is also working to establish mutual recognition agreements with international standards like Verra and Gold Standard by May. This program is expected to create around 170,000 jobs and promote sustainable management of natural resources. Overall, the move is seen as crucial for enhancing Indonesia's competitiveness in global carbon markets and aiding in climate change mitigation efforts.
