Mass Killings Reported After RSF Takeover
Reports and UN/WHO statements say the Rapid Support Forces seized El-Fasher after an 18-month siege and carried out mass killings, including an alleged attack on the Saudi Maternity Hospital that UN agencies and satellite imagery indicate killed scores and may have killed more than 460 patients and companions. Graphic videos, satellite images and survivor testimony have been cited as corroboration; the RSF has denied the claims while its leader Mohamed “Hemedti” Dagalo acknowledged “violations” and said an investigation would be launched. The takeover has deepened a humanitarian catastrophe, with UN warnings that hundreds of thousands are trapped, declarations of famine in displacement camps, estimates of tens of thousands killed, millions displaced, and more than 30 million Sudanese in urgent need of aid. The European Union, major Arab states and humanitarian agencies have condemned the RSF’s brutality, reported attacks on aid workers including deaths of Red Crescent volunteers, and demanded protection of civilians and unfettered humanitarian access. Human-rights and medical observers say assaults on hospitals and health workers reflect a wider pattern of healthcare being weaponized in conflict and are calling for early preventive action and accountability under international law.
