Zubayr Hamza Returns as SA Names Young Squad

South Africa has announced a 16-member Test squad for their upcoming two-match series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo starting June 28. The squad includes five uncapped players—Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Dewald Brevis, Lesego Senokwane, Codi Yusuf, and Prenelan Subrayen—showcasing a focus on new talent. Zubayr Hamza returns to the squad for the first time since early 2024. Several senior players, including Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs, have been rested to manage their workload. Head coach Shukri Conrad described the tour as a chance to test emerging players in Test cricket. The series is not part of the World Test Championship, giving South Africa freedom to experiment.
