Drunk Driver Destroys Tents at Montauk Art Show

Nicoly Ribeiro De Souza, 23, crashed her 2020 Nissan Rogue into the annual Montauk Art Show at Montauk Green early Sunday morning, causing over $100,000 in damage to tents and destroying the work of many local and regional artists. De Souza was hospitalized with minor injuries and then held for arraignment, facing charges of driving while intoxicated and six counts of reckless criminal mischief. One tent alone displayed work from about 30 artists, and some lost their entire inventory, with months of work destroyed. Despite the devastation, about 50 volunteers quickly cleaned up so the show could reopen as scheduled. No show participants were injured, and a GoFundMe campaign was launched to support the affected artists. The East Hampton Police are continuing their investigation and have asked witnesses to come forward.
