Apple Unveils Liquid Glass Design Across iOS, macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS
At WWDC 2025, Apple unveiled its biggest design overhaul in years across all its operating systems, introducing the new Liquid Glass design language characterized by semi-translucent, glass-like, and dynamic UI elements that adapt to content and context. This design refresh, the most significant since iOS 7, spans iOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26, unifying the user experience across devices including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Vision Pro. Alongside the design update, Apple expanded its on-device AI capabilities under the Apple Intelligence brand, featuring Live Translation integrated into Messages, FaceTime, and Phone for real-time multilingual communication, enhanced visual intelligence to analyze on-screen content, and new creative tools like Genmoji and Image Playground. The new OS lineup also includes refined app experiences, such as a simplified Camera app layout and dynamic shrinking tab bars in apps like Apple Music and Podcasts to prioritize content. Despite these enhancements, investor response was muted, reflecting tempered expectations following last year's postponed AI features like the revamped Siri. Apple also announced that developers will have access to updated APIs and a Foundation Models framework to incorporate AI into their apps, with the public release scheduled for fall 2025.
