Jamie Melham Makes Melbourne Cup History
The $10 million, 3200‑metre 2025 Melbourne Cup at Flemington on Nov. 4, contested by 24 horses, was won by Half Yours, ridden by Jamie Melham, who became the first female jockey to complete the Caulfield–Melbourne Cup double. Half Yours, trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, surged late to beat Goodie Two Shoes (second) and Middle Earth (third). The Cup was run on an upgraded soft 5 after rain threatened, and several heavily backed hopes including Presage Nocturne and Al Riffa failed to feature. Mark Zahra added multiple carnival wins including the Grand Handicap and Tab Trophy, and James McDonald pledged his meeting prize‑money percentage to the Tom Prebble fundraiser. The race drew nationwide attention with live coverage across Flemington and Royal Randwick and extensive build‑up and analysis from racing figures and media.
