Cambodian Journalist Mech Dara Released on Bail

Mech Dara, a prominent Cambodian journalist known for his investigative work, has been released on bail after being detained on charges of inciting social unrest since October 1. His arrest was linked to social media posts deemed 'provocative' by authorities regarding a rock quarry on a sacred mountain. Following his release, a video surfaced in which Dara apologized for his posts, stating they conveyed 'false information' affecting the country's reputation. Despite his release, he still faces the charge, which could lead to a maximum penalty of two years in prison, and he is required to report to police monthly while being barred from leaving Cambodia.
