North Carolina Teacher Charged with Intoxication, Student Assault on School Grounds

Alena Chabot, a 32-year-old math teacher at E.B. Frink Middle School in Lenoir County, North Carolina, was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct on school property and misdemeanor intoxicated and disruptive after being accused of being drunk on campus on the second day of school. A school resource officer was alerted to her suspected intoxication, and an open container of alcohol along with prescription medication was found in her purse. Warrants stated that Chabot was too impaired to teach, leading to her removal and replacement by a substitute teacher. Additionally, she was accused of grabbing and pushing two students during the incident. Chabot was hired on August 17 and resigned or left her position on August 26, the day of the incident. She is expected to appear in court in December to face the charges.
