Tesla Recalls Model 3/Y and Cybertrucks
Tesla has issued two recent NHTSA-listed recalls: about 12,963 of its 2025 Model 3 and 2026 Model Y vehicles for a battery-pack contactor defect that can cause sudden loss of drive power, and 63,619 Cybertrucks (2024–2026) because front parking lights can exceed FMVSS 108 brightness limits and distract other drivers. The affected Model 3/Y contactors (part 1089334-01-K) were supplied by SongChuan and built with InTiCa solenoids tied to high coil resistance in vehicles produced March–August 2025; Tesla has logged 36 warranty claims and 26 field reports and says it is unaware of any crashes, injuries, or fatalities linked to the issue. Tesla will replace the Model 3/Y contactors free of charge at service centers or via mobile service (the fix cannot be delivered over the air), while Cybertruck owners will receive a free over‑the‑air software update to fix the lighting issue and owner notification letters are scheduled for December. Regulators report no crashes tied to the Cybertruck lighting issue so far, and the recalls come amid separate NHTSA scrutiny of Tesla’s Full Self‑Driving system. Tesla also posted record Q3 2025 deliveries and revenue even as net income fell, and said its Megapack and Powerwall energy‑storage business grew strongly.
