Lightning Kills 1, Injures 13 at New Jersey Archery Range
A 61-year-old man died and 13 others, ranging in age from 7 to 61, were injured after a lightning strike hit the Black Knight Bow Benders outdoor archery range in Jackson Township, New Jersey, on Wednesday evening. The strike occurred shortly after 7 p.m. as a fast-moving thunderstorm, accompanied by severe lightning, swept through the area. Victims experienced injuries from burns to general complaints of feeling unwell, with one person temporarily losing consciousness; all injured were transported to local hospitals. The group affected was associated with Jackson Scouts Troupe 204, a Scouting America-affiliated organization, and about 20 people were present at the time. Emergency responders from several nearby townships rushed to the scene, and a nearby house was also set on fire by the storm. The incident occurred as parts of New Jersey were under severe thunderstorm and flood warnings, following heavy storms earlier in the week.
