Mel Gibson to Direct The Resurrection of Christ

Mel Gibson has announced plans to begin filming the sequel to his 2004 blockbuster The Passion of the Christ, titled The Resurrection of the Christ, in 2026. The project, which has faced delays and changes over the years, will see Jim Caviezel reprise his role as Jesus. Gibson discussed the ambitious script, co-written with his brother and Braveheart scribe Randall Wallace, which took seven years to develop and features a non-linear narrative that explores themes from the fall of the angels to the death of the last apostle. He described the film as an 'acid trip' that will delve into mystical realms and the resurrection story in a unique way. While promoting his new film Flight Risk, Gibson expressed excitement about the project, emphasizing that it is taking its own time to develop properly. The original Passion of the Christ remains the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, with over $612 million at the box office.
