Colorado State Patrol Corporal Shot in Ambush

Cpl. Tye Simcox of the Colorado State Patrol was shot in the arm while parked on U.S. 36 during an ambush on September 7, which state officials believe was a 'target of opportunity.' The shooter, identified as Victor Anthony De Santiago, fired multiple rounds from his truck before exiting and continuing the assault. Simcox, after being shot, returned fire and fatally shot De Santiago. Following the incident, Simcox was treated at a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, expressing gratitude for the support he received. Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting and the connection between De Santiago's criminal history and the attack. The Colorado State Patrol released body-worn camera footage of the incident to assist in understanding the circumstances surrounding the ambush.
