Italian Sea Group Denies Liability in Yacht Sinking

The Italian Sea Group has stated it is not liable for the sinking of the superyacht Bayesian, which resulted in the deaths of British tech billionaire Mike Lynch and six others. CEO Giovanni Costantino clarified that the company's 2021 acquisition of Perini Navi, its original builder, did not include liabilities from previous operations. The yacht sank in August after being struck by a violent storm off Sicily, leading to a manslaughter investigation by an Italian prosecutor. The vessel was carrying 22 people, including Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, both of whom were among the deceased. The incident has raised questions among industry experts as to the circumstances surrounding the sinking. Costantino emphasized that the acquisition only involved assets, absolving the Italian Sea Group of any responsibility for past management actions.
