Tennessee AG Reveals ICE's Detainee Release Opposition

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti announced the release of documents from ICE, revealing a halted plan to release detained migrants, including those with criminal records, into Tennessee. This plan was abandoned following pushback from Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, state lawmakers, and a lawsuit filed by Skrmetti's office. The documents showed coordination between ICE, Nashville officials, and local immigration-rights groups to facilitate the release before the termination of the federal government's Title 42 public health order. Despite abandoning the plan in Tennessee, ICE released over 7,000 detainees from Louisiana facilities, including individuals with violent criminal backgrounds. Skrmetti emphasized the federal government's responsibility to prevent dangerous individuals from entering the country and pledged continued efforts for transparency and accountability in the immigration system.
