Two Dead in Robeson Township House Fire
A devastating house fire on the 3200 block of Morgantown Road in Robeson Township, Berks County, resulted in the deaths of two residents early Wednesday morning. The blaze was reported at 1 a.m., and despite the swift response from local fire departments, including assistance from Caernarvon Township Fire Department, the fire reached two alarms before being brought under control. The victims, identified as Steve Kurtz, 69, and Carolyn Kurtz, 34, were found in the doorway of the home and later pronounced dead at Reading Hospital. The fire caused significant structural damage, with the second floor collapsing onto the first, rendering the home uninhabitable. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the road was temporarily closed but has since reopened. Additionally, one dog and two cats perished in the fire.
