Qualcomm Acquires Movian AI to Boost Innovation

Qualcomm has acquired Movian AI, the generative AI division of VinAI, which is part of Vietnam's largest conglomerate, Vingroup. The acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, aims to integrate VinAI's expertise in generative AI, machine learning, and computer vision into Qualcomm's R&D to enhance its AI solutions across industries such as smartphones, PCs, and software-defined vehicles. Qualcomm, known for its Snapdragon chips, has been strengthening its presence in Vietnam and the AI sector, with the acquisition following its recent purchase of Germany-based Edge Impulse. Dr. Hung Bui, VinAI's CEO and former Google DeepMind research scientist, will join Qualcomm to drive fundamental AI research and development. This move underscores Qualcomm's commitment to AI innovation and its strategic collaboration with the Vietnamese tech ecosystem to boost the country's ICT industry. VinAI's talent and technology are expected to contribute significantly to Qualcomm's product families and AI tooling capabilities.
