FSIS Class I Alert: Hillshire Recalls 58M Pounds
Hillshire Brands Co., a Tyson Foods subsidiary, voluntarily recalled about 58 million pounds of State Fair, Jimmy Dean and food-service corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products packaged March 17–Sept. 26, 2025, after wooden sticks or fragments were found embedded in batter. The contamination followed multiple consumer complaints, five of which reported injuries, and Hillshire’s investigation found wooden sticks entered the production process before battering at the Haltom City, Texas, plant (products bear establishment numbers EST-582 or P-894). The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a health alert and flagged the recall as a Class I risk, and is urging consumers, schools and institutions to throw away or return affected items and to seek medical care if injured. The recalled products cover 27 items and were shipped nationwide to retailers (including Walmart, Meijer and Target), online sellers, food-service outlets, school districts and Department of Defense facilities; FSIS and Tyson provide full lists and product images for identification. Tyson says the issue is isolated to the Haltom City plant and investigations and removal of affected products are ongoing.
